Registration Fee Structure
Base registration fees now include all SMHA costs that are charged to every team within an age division, regardless of the level of hockey they play, with one exception: the cost of development instructors.
Players who are placed on a competitive team are charged a Competitive Fee to account for the additional ice time, referees, timekeepers, and other expenses associated with competitive hockey. This fee appears as a separate line item in competitive team budgets called "Competitive Fee."
While charging these fees through team budgets is not a significant departure from how costs were handled in the past, we believe this approach provides greater transparency regarding who SMHA is charging and the purpose of those charges.
We recognize that this structure increases the upfront cost of registration. To help manage this increase, U9 to U18 participants are required to pay 75% of their registration fees at the time of registration, with the remaining 25% due by October 1. Registration fees for U5, U7, and U23 programs remain due in full at the time of registration.
Other than the Competitive Fee described above, the only SMHA charge teams receive is for development instructors. No other fees are charged to team budgets, as these costs are already included in the base registration fee.
We are including a table below that summarizes the fees to be charged:
- "Base Registration Fee" applies to all players within a division
- "Tryout Fee" applies to all players participating in that division's competitive tryouts
- The Tryout Fee is non-refundable for those participating
- Players released at any point from their division's competitive tryouts are not eligible for pro-rated refunds of this fee.
- "U13AAA Tryout Fee" applies only to players participating in the U13AAA competitive tryout.
- Note: Those trying out for U13AAA will see a $400 Tryout Fee ($150 + $250) during registration along with their U13 Base Registration Fee.
- Players named to the U13AAA team will have the U13 Tryout Fee ($150) credited to their accounts, as they will not participate in the U13 AA/A/B Competitive Tryouts.
- The U13AAA Tryout Fee is non-refundable for those participating.
- Players released at any point from the U13AAA selection process are not eligible for pro-rated refunds of this fee. They continue on and participate in the U13 AA/A/B Competitive Tryouts.
- Note: Those trying out for U13AAA will see a $400 Tryout Fee ($150 + $250) during registration along with their U13 Base Registration Fee.
- "Competitive Fee" is the per-player fee that will be added to those team's budgets, and will apply only to those who are placed on those teams
It is important to note that these fees are not inclusive of the entire cost of hockey for those who have team budgets. U5, U7 and U23 will continue to not have team budgets, all other teams will, and the range of cost can vary significantly. Team budgets account for tournaments, extra ice, socks, year end presents/party etc... and are established by the team staff based on guidelines set by the Association.
The Association has a dollar cap on team budgets that is reviewed annually to which the total amount charged (based on age group and level) must be under the threshold. If the coaching staff wishes to establish an amount higher than that, an anonymous vote will be sent out for parent approval to which 75% of parents must be in agreement.
The fees, per child (in addition to the competitive fee) often range from $500 up to $1500 and higher, depending on level of hockey and will only be determined once teams are set. Parents must be aware of these costs before registering and committing to play this team-based sport.
This table shows the costs associated with SMHA as discussed above.
Please direct any questions about the Registration Fee Sructure outlined above to Michael Doucet, SMHA Treasurer, at Treasurer@FlyersHockey.ca.

50/50 Credits
- Carried-Forward 50/50 Credits from 2025-2026 were linked to players in HCR in the Spring.
- If, during registration, if you realize you want to transfer credits to a sibling for that transaction: PLEASE STOP and read the "Families with Multiple Players" section below.
- The credits should show up when registering your player.
- Frequently Asked Questions
- How can I check how much credit we have?
Log into HCR 3.0 (https://register.hockeycanada.ca/home ->Log In (top right corner).
Click the grey silhouette (top right corner). My Account -> Purchases on the left side.
In the right column labelled Due, you will see a negative amount in green font. It will be the top line, posted to your account this Spring.
That is your family's Carried Forward 50/50 Credit.
The Parent view unfortunately doesn't indicate which player has the credit if you have more than one player in your family. - What if I have questions when I'm in the middle of online Registration, and it isn't showing up how I thought it would?
Your best bet is to send an email to Tara Amirault (Finance@FlyersHockey.ca). - What if I don't have enough to cover the 2nd (3rd, etc) child's registration in full?
That is completely fine. Once we reach back out to you to let you know the credit was moved as requested below, you will be able to finish the Registration process and use another method of payment (EMT or Credit Card) for the balance. - Questions about 50/50 Credits can be sent to Finance@FlyersHockey.ca
- How can I check how much credit we have?
- Families with Multiple Players:
-
- There is a known issue in the Hockey Canada Registration portal related to the sharing of 50/50 Credits among siblings.
- Before registration, feel free to fill in 2026-2027 Sibling 50/50 Credits with instructions about a percentage of your total credits or a dollar amount to be moved between siblings.
- Tara Amirault (Finance@FlyersHockey.ca) will confirm by email that the credits have been manually moved to the appropriate sibling.
- If, during registration, if you realize you need to transfer credits to a sibling PLEASE STOP and do not finish registration at that time. Continuing the check-out process when the credits haven't yet been moved creates some manual behind-the-scenes work to fix it...
- Fill in 2026-2027 Sibling 50/50 Credits and wait for Tara Amirault (Finance@FlyersHockey.ca) to confirm with you by email that the credits have been manually moved to the appropriate sibling. Please check your Spam Filter / Junk Inboxes.
- When you receive confirmation that the 50/50 Credits are moved, please go back into HCR and proceed with registration. The credits can then be applied to each player properly.
- This is the same process used since 2022.
