We are pleased to be hosting our Second Rec Coaches info session on Sept 5th from 7- 8:30 pm in the Arena Mezz. 
 
 This session is intended for any and all potential Rec coaches for the coming season. 
 
 Topics of discussion will include: 
 
 - Evaluation format
 - Team selection
 - Coach selection
 - Development model and Team Practices
 - MMHL updates/regulations

Exciting News!! 50/50 credits update for U23 registration!

We would like to remind everyone that new this year, SMHA is accepting registration for a U23 team! 

SMHA is also pleased to announce that for this year only, players who are registering for U23 that have previously expired 50/50 credits from U18 can reach out to have their credit brought back into the player's account!! This will allow the opportunity for returning players to use their old credits towards the cost of registration for this upcoming season!!

Seeking Pre-Season Dressing Room Volunteers 

As per Hockey Nova Scotia, we are mandated to follow the "Rule of Two" when monitoring dressing rooms during all sessions. 

Ideally, we would have former managers or coaches sign up as they already have all required certifications in order to monitor dressing rooms. 

Please see the 2024/25 Pre-Season Dressing Room Volunteers spreadsheet to sign up.

We ask that volunteers only sign up if they are able to make all sessions for the division and group they are volunteering to monitor.

You will see a "Pre-Season Camps & Clinics" header on the SMHA website. Please click on the dropdown menu to find more information! 

FREE Come Try Goalie Sessions 

SMHA is once again pleased to offer two FREE come try goalie sessions this season! 

Interested participants should bring their player gear. No goalie gear or goaltending experience required. Bring any goalie gear you have on hand, and we will also have some gear to share. 

Sign up today for one, or both sessions!

Exciting News! You asked, and we delivered! Pre-Season Goalie Camp!

SMHA is proud to announce we have just finalized a pre-season goalie camp for our upcoming 2024/25 season.

5 Goalie Sessions at the cost of $125.00 will include the below:

  • 3 Sessions with just goalies 
    • September 4, 2024 – 7:00pm Sackville Sports Stadium
    • September 11, 2024 – 7:00pm Sackville Sports Stadium
    • September 18, 2024 – 7:00pm Sackville Sports Stadium
  • 2 Sessions joining in with the players (Goalie coaches will be available for instruction)
    • Player/Goalie session dates will be announced closer to September as we place based on division

In addition to the above goalie sessions, goalies are welcome to attend all 5 pre-season player camps in your division, as the players will need goalies to shoot on.

If you would like to register, please e-mail registration@flyershockey.ca and we will complete your registration. If you have already signed up for pre-season camp as a goalie, we will automatically move you over to the new goalie camp.

As this camp was just finalized, please register right away! Deadline for registration is Friday, August 30th at 11:59pm.

Seeking Expression of Interest in CMHL Delegate and Division Coordinators

Due to minimal initial interest, we are putting out an additional call for interest in the following positions. If you have already emailed us about any of these roles, we will contact you directly. 

  • Central Minor Hockey League (CMHL) Delegate
  • U5/U7 Division Coordinator
  • U9 Division Coordinator
  • U11 Recreation Division Coordinator
  • U11 Competitive Division Coordinator
  • U13 Recreation Division Coordinator
  • U13 Competitive Division Coordinator
  • U15 Recreation Division Coordinator
  • U15 Competitive Division Coordinator
  • U18 Recreation Division Coordinator
  • U18 Competitive Division Coordinator

As a director, the CMHL Delegate must be in good standing with SMHA, and must have one year of volunteer experience with either SMHA or another Minor Hockey association. Please refer to our updated bylaws (Article VII- 42 M-V ) for more information. We are looking to fill the CMHL role as soon as possible.

The Division Coordinators support communications between the Executive, Coaching/Bench staff, and SMHA Players/Families. The Division Coordinators report to their respective Vice President (VP Competitive, VP Recreation, VP U9, or VP U7) and assist in all operational functions related to their division, fostering a positive hockey experience for all SMHA players and families.
