Covid-19 Update - Sept 17, 2021

Subject: Sport & Recreation Proof of Vaccine FAQ

***************

Latest update from Hockey NS and Sports NS:

We just received this attached file from Sport Nova Scotia. It’s an FAQ document from the province aimed at answering some of the questions on proof of vaccine from the sport and recreation sector.

Sport & Rec Proof of Vaccination FAQ

We know you all have a lot of questions and we wanted to get this information to you as soon as we received it. It should be noted that the proof of vaccination policy is still being completed, so additional information will be passed along as it’s made available to us.

In the meantime, we are reviewing the answers provided today and will continue to finalize a Hockey Nova Scotia vaccine policy over the next few days. We aim to have this to you next week in time for our provincial member call on Wednesday.

Thank you for your continued support and patience.

Covid-19 Update - Sept 15, 2021

Please review the latest update from Hockey NS and Sports NS shown below.

Hockey NS Update:

The province announced that the move to Phase 5 of the provincial reopening plan will be delayed until Oct. 4.

Sport Nova Scotia has provided an update after Tuesday’s announcement:

COVID-19 Update: September 14, 2021
Today the province announced that Nova Scotia will delay moving into phase 5 of the reopening plan until October 4.  Starting Oct. 4, people who are 12 and older will need to provide proof of full vaccination to participate in most events and activities that bring groups of people together. While the policy is not yet final, it will apply to participants and spectators for indoor and outdoor sports practices, games, competitions and tournaments as well as indoor and outdoor extracurricular school-based activities, including sports.

We will continue to update you as more information about the details of the vaccine policy become available to us.

Quick Notes
-An exception policy for people who cannot get vaccinated because of a valid medical or behavioural reason is being developed.
-Children who turned 12 between January 1 and October 4 this year will have until December 31 to attend events and activities while they get vaccinated; children who turn 12 after October 4 will have three months from their birthday.

As stated in Sport Nova Scotia’s update below, “Starting Oct. 4, people who are 12 and older will need to provide proof of full vaccination to participate in most events and activities that bring groups of people together. While the policy is not yet final, it will apply to participants and spectators for indoor and outdoor sports practices, games, competitions and tournaments as well as indoor and outdoor extracurricular school-based activities, including sports.”

We all need to do our part to ensure we get to Phase 5. As part of this effort, we once again strongly encourage everyone who is eligible to be vaccinated to do so.

From now until Oct. 4, we would like to remind you that we remain in Phase 4 of the province’s reopening plan. During Phase 4, players, coaches, and officials can practice, train, and compete with up to 59 people in the field of play without social distancing. You are reminded that the field of play refers to the ice surface, team benches, penalty box, timekeeper’s box, and dressing room.

Hockey Nova Scotia applied for and received special exemption from the province and Sport Nova Scotia to allow for a group of this size to be permitted in the field of play during Phase 4. It allows for competition between two teams. To learn more about Phase 4 and what it means for hockey, please click here.

We know you will likely have a lot of questions about today’s announcement, the implementation of this policy, as well as the exception policy that the province is still developing. We will continue to work with Sport Nova Scotia and the province to seek clarity around these issues and we will update you as we receive more information.

As always, we would like to thank you all for your hard work and continued support.

Questionnaire: Sharing Carried-Forward 50/50 Credit to a sibling

This message pertains to SMHA Families with Carried-Forward 50/50 Credit to use on two or more children who have not yet registered.

You can ignore this message if:
-you currently have one child in SMHA and do not need to transfer credits to a sibling
-you already registered during the 2-day window that Regular Season Registration was live in early August

**************************
When Hockey Canada transitioned to HCR 3.0, the Registration and Finance/Treasurer team believed Carried-Forward 50/50 Credit could continue to be shared easily among one family, as was the case in prior HCR systems. We quickly realized the back end of HCR 3.0 would not meet SMHA's complex Carried-Forward 50/50 Credit needs.

Rest assured that the credits are all still there... The problem is that we cannot move and redeem 50/50 Credits in the same way as Hockey Canada's prior registration system.

We have now waited an entire month for HCR developers to come up with a fix. We are hopeful that something more robust will be in place for next season... thereby allowing a seamless sharing of credits between siblings. However with SMHA Competitive Tryouts starting in a few weeks, we simply must get Registration live again and we cannot spare more time waiting on their answer.

**************************
Questionnaire is found here: https://forms.gle/SZK2p2TF1sFfu9xGA
**************************

Helen (SMHA Registrar) and Tara (SMHA Finance Director) need to share your credits between your children manually. Right now the credit is "attached" to one player in your family. Even if you had $5000 in carried-forward 50/50 attached to one player, the system would say you owe money for that player's sibling(s).

In the Questionnaire above, tell us which registration level you're planning to sign each sibling up for, so that we can move just enough credit to each sibling. We will make the changes you request in the back end of HCR 3.0 manually. Then - when you register online in the coming days - it should be seamless.

At this time, Please do not include or worry about any desired "Transfer to Team" amounts to cover Team Fees during the season. We will cross that road when we get to it, and it may require the same manual process unless Hockey Canada develops something in the meantime.

Anticipated FAQ
-How do I know how much credit we have?
Log into HCR 3.0. In the grey silhouette (top right hand corner) click My Account. Then click Purchases on the left hand side. The negative amount showing in the column "Due" is the credit available. Unfortunately in the Parent view it doesn't indicate which player has the credit. We will be able to figure it out when you provide us with the names of all players.

-What if I don't have enough to cover the 2nd (3rd, etc) child's registration in full?
That is completely fine. The HCR 3.0 system will try and apply whatever credit it can first, then you can pay via EMT or Credit Card for the balance

-How will I know when it is done?
Helen (Registration@FlyersHockey.ca) or Tara (Finance@FlyersHockey.ca) will email you when your credits are shared between siblings properly. Once you have that email from us, you can proceed with registration anytime after 9:00am on Saturday, September 11.

-What if I have questions when I'm in the middle of online Registration, and it isn't showing up how I thought it would?
Your best bet is to send an email to Registration@FlyersHockey.ca for us to look into it. There is no rush - there will be tryouts spots for everyone who is signed up before the Sept 26, 2021 deadline.

SMHA General Update - Pre-Season Camp Updates, Registration (re)Opens this Weekend, Siblings Sharing 50/50 Credits

Quick Note re: Pre-Season Camps

Pre-Season Camps are now underway. Please keep the following points in mind as per our SMHA Safety Rep, Danielle (Safety@FlyersHockey.ca). Thank you to the Covid Screening and On-Ice volunteers for helping out.
  • Spectators are to continue wearing non-medical masks when indoors until directed otherwise by the Sackville Arena
  • Parents are not allowed in the dressing rooms
  • Please do not crowd around the doors

Registration

We are pleased to (re)open the SMHA Regular Season this weekend. The SMHA Regular Season Registration Window is as follows:
  • Registration Opens: 9:00am Saturday, Sept 11, 2021
  • Registration Closes: 11:59pm, Sunday, Sept 26, 2021

Things to note:
- Stay tuned for a complete News Release from Hockey Nova Scotia re: recent Nova Scotia Public Health updates. Sport Nova Scotia has already released a statement. We will communicate more as soon as we get further information from Hockey Nova Scotia, so please check back to www.FlyersHockey.ca for updates.
- No Pay, No Play. Registration must be paid in full before the first ice time.
-There were about 200 SMHA Regular Season Registrations completed in early August when Regular Season Registration was online for 18hrs. Those completed registrations are still valid and no action is required from those families.
-There is no upper cap; everyone who wants to play will be able to play provided they sign up on time.
- You *must* complete registration during the above registration window so that ice times can be planned appropriately for Competitive Tryouts and Evaluations.
- If you miss the deadline, you are NOT guaranteed to be part of the Competitive Tryouts process.

Sharing Carried-Forward 50/50 Credit Among Siblings for Regular Season Registration

Some SMHA families will receive an important email this evening from Registration@FlyersHockey.ca. The email will contain a questionnaire relating to sharing Carried-Forward 50/50 Credit among siblings.

The email is targeting families in SMHA that have:
  1. more than one player in SMHA, AND
  2. a sizable Carried-Forward 50/50 Credit - meaning families with credit to pay for more than one player's registration this season.
Families must fill in that Questionnaire ASAP. There is work that must be done on the back end of HCR by the Registration & Finance volunteers for each player in these families, so it is not a small task. This workaround is only useful if it is done *before* these families register their players for the season.

If this specific situation applies to your family - even if registration opens before we get back to you - please wait until you have an individual reply from Helen (Registration) or Tara (Finance) before attempting to register

Looking Ahead

Early October: Competitive Tryouts for U11, U13, U15, and U18
Early-to-Mid October: Evaluations for U7 and U9
Mid October: Recreation Evaluations for U11, U13, U15, and U18 Teams
Mid-to-Late October: Teams finalized, both Players and Coaches/Volunteers
End of November: First Flyers 50/50 of the 2021-2022 Hockey Season.
December 1: Deadline for Mandatory Coach Certifications & Criminal Record Checks for volunteers (Contact Craig, RiskManagement@FlyersHockey.ca for more information)

Questions re: Registration can be directed to Registration@FlyersHockey.ca, and questions re: Credits can be directed to Finance@FlyersHockey.ca; Please continue to be patient as we are dealing with a full-time volume of emails on a volunteer basis. Thank you to all SMHA Families for their patience during this transition to HCR 3.0.
