More Than a Game: A Season of Banners, Brotherhood, and International Bonds

As the ice settles at St. Margaret’s Centre and the jerseys are packed away for the summer, the TASA U13C Ducks Black look back on a 2025-2026 season that will be remembered long after the final buzzer. It was a season defined by grit, a historic league title, and a moment of international sportsmanship that captured the true spirit of the sport.

Dominance on the Leaderboard

From the early morning practices in November to the high-stakes games of April, the Ducks Black displayed a level of "buy-in" that is rare for youth hockey. The coaching staff noted early on that this group was special—not just because of their talent, but because of their commitment to the "details."

That hard work translated into hardware. Over the holiday break, the team battled through a grueling schedule to capture the Kyle Henneberry Memorial Tournament title in Spryfield. But their greatest achievement was their season-long consistency. After months of competing against the best in the region, the Ducks Black were crowned the top team in their division, officially bringing home the Metro Minor Hockey League (MMHL) Gold Banner.

Ambassadors of the Game

While the Gold Banner will hang proudly as a testament to their skill, a single moment during the SEDMHA International Tournament perhaps best defined the character of this roster.

Facing off against a visiting team from Ireland, the Ducks Black players didn’t just see opponents—they saw fellow hockey lovers who had traveled thousands of miles to play in our backyard. In a move that displayed maturity beyond their years, the Ducks presented the Irish players with hand-written cards and local mementos before the game.

The image of the two teams standing together—smiles wide, arms around one another—serves as a reminder that hockey is a universal language. In that moment, the Ducks Black weren't just representing TASA; they were representing Nova Scotia.

A Journey Across the Maritimes

The season was also defined by the miles traveled and the memories made off the ice. A team trek across the Confederation Bridge to Prince Edward Island allowed the players to bond in a way that only a road trip can. Whether it was the team outing to cheer on the Halifax Mooseheads at the Scotiabank Centre or the quiet moments in the locker room at SMC, the brotherhood formed this year was unbreakable.

Perspective from the Bench

Despite a heart-wrenching battle in the City Gold Championship game on April 4th, the coaching staff remained focused on the bigger picture. In a year-end note to families, the Head Coach emphasized that the result of one game does not define a season.

"Each and every player excelled this year... Their dedication, commitment, and hard work were truly the keys to our success. What they achieved over the course of the season goes far beyond a single outcome, and they should be very proud."

The coach went on to describe this group as one of his "best and favorite" to ever lead, a sentiment echoed by the parents and volunteers who watched these young men grow as athletes and as individuals.

A Heartfelt Thank You

A season this successful requires a massive support system. A sincere thank you goes out to our coaching staff and team manager for their tireless logistics and leadership. To the parents and families: your energy in the stands and your commitment to the "village" made this year possible.

As we look toward the year-end party and the summer break, we celebrate the TASA U13C Ducks Black—champions of the MMHL, winners of the Kyle Henneberry, and, most importantly, world-class ambassadors for the game of hockey.

See you at the rink!

Built Better: "Double Banner" Season with Historic 9-0 Championship Shutout

The TASA U13C Ducks Black have officially cemented their place in the club’s history books. In a season defined by composure, tactical discipline, and relentless consistency, the Ducks capped off their league campaign this afternoon with a statement 9-0 shutout victory in the MMHL Gold League Championship Final.

A Season of Dominance

Entering the final against an opponent that had held the league’s top ranking all season, the Ducks Black arrived with a clear objective.

From the opening puck drop, the Ducks dismantled the top seed with a clinical, high-paced attack, ultimately securing a 9-0 victory—a lopsided scoreline that served as a decisive reality check on the biggest stage of the season. Ducks Black let their performance on the ice do the talking.

The Double Banner Legacy

This afternoon’s Gold League banner is the second major trophy of the year for the Ducks Black. Earlier in the season, the team captured the coveted Kyle Henneberry Memorial Tournament title, proving their ability to thrive in high-stakes tournament environments.

Coupled with a remarkable 8-1-0 tournament record including their recent trip to Prince Edward Island, the Ducks Black have showcased a level of consistency that is rarely seen at the U13 level. Across the entire season, the team has successfully balanced elite offensive production with a disciplined, "team-first" defensive structure that has proven nearly impossible to break.

Built Better: Discipline Under Pressure

Perhaps the most telling aspect of the team’s championship run is their discipline. In a final defined by high emotions and physical play, the Ducks Black maintained complete composure. While the intensity of the game led to multiple penalties for their opposition, the Ducks remained focused on their systems, finishing the championship final with just a single minor penalty.

"It’s not about the noise or the rankings before the game," noted a parent. "It’s about what you do when the puck hits the ice. We’ve been focused on building a team that stays in the moment, stays disciplined, and plays for one another. Two banners in one year is the result of that work."

Next Stop: SEDMHA

With the Kyle Henneberry and the MMHL Gold League banners now secured, the Ducks Black are far from finished. The team’s focus has already shifted to the upcoming SEDMHA tournament at the end of March.

As they prepare for their final challenge of the year, the Ducks Black carry the momentum of a historic season, a reputation for clinical discipline, and the quiet confidence of a group that has proven exactly who they are on the ice.

The hardware is home at SMC, but for the Ducks Black, the job isn’t done yet.
