Kraft Hockeyville Vote-A-Thon: Event Overview, Volunteer Sign-ups, Player Video Request

CALLING EVERY AVAILABLE SMHA PARENT!!! (and players over 14 years old)!!

We need at least one hour of your time on April 4th & 5th!!

As you know we’re in the final 4 of Kraft Hockeyville and the final step to winning $250K and an NHL game is 32 hours of unlimited voting.

THE ASK: Take a 1-hour shift (or more) during voting hours to vote over and over for the Sackville Arena.

You can do this at home, or even better, we will be hosting a Vote-A-Thon in the mezzanine for the entire 32 hours!! Schedule below!!

We’re looking for the highest possible level of engagement on this as the outcome of these 32 hours will greatly impact our Arena, players, and families for years to come!! This is not the time to wait for someone else to vote for us; this is a time for all of us to come together and win together.

Thank you Sackville Minor Families! Let’s bring this one home!!

Other ways to help:

  1. Donate Food for the Mezz for voting day. Looking for snacks, chips, granola bars, juice boxes, water bottles, etc.
  2. Lend an iPad or tablet for use in the Mezz.
  3. Ask your workplace and your co-workers to vote for a half hour or more on Friday the 4th
  4. Reach out to all your 50/50 supporters and ask them to take an hour or two to vote!
  5. Ask grandparents or other community groups to also take an hour to vote.

Player Video Request

Calling all Flyers families that call the Sackville Arena home, young and old!!

We are working on a Kraft Hockeyville promo video to blast out right before voting day to maximize interest.

If your player would like a possibility of being in the promo, please send a video of your player wearing a jersey answering 1 or both of these 2 questions! Bonus points for creativity!!

1. What does the Sackville Arena mean to you?

2. What do you love about playing hockey?

Send videos via email to communications@flyershockey.ca as soon as possible!!

Thank you so much to everyone for everything you have done along the way to get us where we are today. We see you commenting, re-sharing and getting the word out!! Let's give these voting days all we can!!

SMHA Introduces New “Penalty Sharing” Rule to Promote Teamwork

In an exciting move to foster teamwork and accountability, Sackville Minor Hockey Association is proud to introduce a pilot project for a groundbreaking rule change: Penalty Sharing.

Starting immediately, any player who receives a penalty will be given the option to share their time in the box with a teammate of their choosing. The rule applies to all minor penalties and is designed to reinforce the importance of supporting one another—on and off the ice.

“We believe this rule will bring players closer together and help them develop important life skills,” said SMHA’s President Rob Nurnber. “If you take a tripping penalty, now you’ll have to think about who’s got your back—or who owes you one!”

To ensure fairness, players cannot select the same teammate more than once per game. Additionally, goalies will not be allowed to participate in penalty sharing—except in cases where there are no other players available.

The SMHA Board is looking forward to reviewing the new rule in action at the upcoming Day of Champions games involving our very own U13B CMHL Champion Team on April 5 in Truro. The Association is confident it will be a game-changer for minor hockey.

We have come a long way Kraft Hockeyville but still work to be done! - A message from our President

I would like to first send out a heartfelt congratulations to our community as we are very excited to claim a Top 4 spot in Kraft Hockeyville!

One winner will be selected for the grand prize of $250,000 to be used towards arena upgrades and will have an opportunity to host an NHL pre-season game. We of course, hope we can all come together to make sure we bring this home to our Sackville Arena!

By placing top 4 we have already guaranteed the Sackville Arena $25,000 for arena upgrades, and all top four communities will be given $10,000 in new hockey equipment, courtesy of NHLPA Goals & Dreams.

It is hard to believe that November 7th, 2023 was when I sent a communication to our membership that I would be creating a Kraft Hockeyville Committee and would be putting out a call later in the season for expressions of interest to join our Kraft Hockeyville Committee. It seems like yesterday.

On January 7th, 2024 I then put a call out to our membership for expression of interest to be on the Kraft Hockeyville committee I would be forming. The interest was exceptional and on Wednesday March the 27th I sent a welcome communication to those who would form our Kraft Hockeyville Committee for our bid that I would place on January 1st 2025 for our beloved Sackville Arena.

As the committee chair and President of our association I could not have asked for a better group of individuals to be on our committee. Each and every one of our committee members have all played a pivotal role in our success thus far in making it to the final 4 for the 2025 Kraft Hockeyville Crown! The time and dedication each of these individuals has put in has been well beyond expectations. What we see as a community is only a small part of all their combined efforts.

I want to take a moment to thank our committee members as the Chair of our committee on behalf of our community and our association from the bottom of my heart. Without your dedication and commitment to see this journey through, we simply would not be where we are today. You all deserve to be recognized for your contributions.

With heartfelt appreciation I want to acknowledge the following individuals for everything you have given each day over the past year for our bid.

Joining me on the committee:

Amber Davis
Allison Deveau
Andy Deveau
Chris Fraser
Kim Gray
Angela Pennell
Collen Richards
Sharlene Salter

As well to all the individuals who reached out with ideas or joined our open sessions, thank you so much! To all of you that joined us for our Rally Day and our events, thank you for supporting our bid!

To all of our rally sponsors, without your support this would not have been possible as well, our community thanks you for your very generous support! We will continue to promote your businesses rest assured.

We have come so far, let's all band together and on April 4th and April 5th bring the win home where it belongs! Sackville Is Hockeyville!
